Love my Library

I have a new reason to love my local library (sorry about the 2 library posts in a row thing but lately I'm lovin' my library): They have British TV series! I can't believe that I didn't know this (or that my mother who works at said library never told me). The news came about when my dad after returning from a visit to Boston mentioned that he had been watching a British series and an Irish series and that we might get those from the library (he had already checked to see if the local one had them) for some family fun. My immediate question was: "Do they have the Vicar of Dibley?" My mother didn't know but said they have lots of fun British stuff that no one knows about. Well I finally got around to checking the library catalogue and she is right they do have lots of fun stuff! I still can't believe I didn't know this and that no one told me.

They have: The Vicar of Dibley; As Time Goes By; Doctor Who (the new one with David Tennant); Monarch of the Glen; and Father Ted. All are favorites of mine. They sadly don't yet have My Family or My Hero but I have hope that the brilliant person who purchased the above series will no doubt be getting to these. I'm sure I'm forgetting some other great British Series. Any reminders from the audience would be appreciated.

For a little bit of fun, here a two clips from The Vicar of Dibley. The first is an end of show joke (they do one for each episode). Here you will get a bit of an introduction to Alice (my favorite character)--she's the one who doesn't get it. The second is a short piece done for charity.

So did you even KNOW that the vicar totally marries John Thornton from North & South? Because she does. Which is I guess her reward for being a vicar.

Sign me up.

How did I not realize this? I mean I've watched the marriage episodes twice and North & South as well. I blame it on the hair and maybe concede just a bit to being a little dim at times. Sign me up as well.

That is a funny show. Thanks for showing and telling. Is that the same actress from Noting Hill?

We love My Family. We get it here on our PBS station at 10 or 10:30 on Saturday (or Friday?) nights. Still, I love the reruns the best--the new episodes the kids are too old. Like Cosby show in Season 8 as opposed to Season 1.

Hee. I love My Family too, mostly because it has Captain Sir Edward Pellew from Horatio Hornblower in it. And did you know that the oldest daughter in My Family is Margaret from North & South?

It all comes back to North & South . . .

Obviously I need to watch North & South again!

I used to watch As Time Goes By but haven't for a long time. I know it's cheesy, but I also like Mr. Bean. I guess that shows my lack of good humor, but I can't help it! But the one I really love is Keeping Up Appearances! That's my all time favorite!

I love Mr. Bean as well-the tv not the movies-so funny. I mean he hardly says anything the entire show and yet conveys so much.

Love Mr. Bean, but Rowan Atkinson is really best in Blackatter (spell) or that hilarious cop show. What was it called?

Unless he has done more than one cop show I think it is called The Thin Blue Line. I actually just saw it for the first time about a week ago and you are right he is great in it. I'm not familiar with Blackatter--I've heard of it and possibly watched an episode or two but I can't recall it so I'll have to look that one up.
